Each student will complete a current event project for Social Studies class each trimester. Students will be required to report on an event that has occurred within one week of their due date. Students need to find and report on a news story from a reliable source that has social implications. Social Studies topics include government, politics, war and peace, international organizations (UN, OSA, OPEC, etc.), and humanitarian efforts around the world. Sports, music, and crime stories from outside Philadelphia are not relevant to our class, unless there are widespread implications.
Students with a late current event will be given one week to hand it in. After one week, students will earn a zero.
Students will receive a Social Studies grade based on content, summary, grammar, neatness/on time (25 points each), as well as a communication grade for ELA based on your presentation and your attentive listening to other people’s news stories.
