"To achieve all that is expected, Man must sometimes overestimate their capacities!"
- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Welcome to 6th Grade to everyone, including the author of this piece himself! My name is James Charles Wick, Jr. and I will be your children's 6th Grade ELA teacher this year. I trust that the Summer was good to you and that your students are well rested and ready to go to places that they never expected they could. This of course begins with the completion of Summer Reading. Please note that the students may call me "Mr. Wick" or "Coach Wick". I currently serve as the Quarterbacks Coach at Holy Cross Preparatory School. Additionally, as a bonnie son of St. Patrick (Irish by descent), a Knight of Columbus, and a future Deacon currently in training, I hope to aide your children in their spiritual development through the example that I set.
It is my intention to use this site for a variety of updates and the disemination of information. I will post information on a timely and regular basis. I just ask your patience because technology takes me a little while. More detailed sheets regarding class expectations, academic rigor, classroom birthday practices, etc. will be coming home during the first two weeks of the school year.
Oh, I almost forgot the quote. This rather appropriate saying comes to us from the great German author, von Goethe. I must admit that I modified it from the original to fit my students. Goethe lived in a male dominated world, so the use of "Man" and "their" includes all students. It's meaning is very simple but quite profound. To become all that you are destined to be, the phrase "I can't" cannot be part of your vocabulary or your work effort. You must work hard everyday to eliminate it.
